What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is a family of viruses commonly known for causing poor respiratory function and illness. COVID-19 is a new virus in the Coronavirus family.
As a respiratory virus, it spreads through droplets, and as such can quickly be spread via coughing, sneezing, and contact with surfaces.
As such, it is easily spread in a working environment through socialising, handling of technology, paperwork and through touching surfaces like light switches or door handles.
This means it is very important that workspaces are kept clean, and hygiene is made a priority. The virus will have minimal chance of surface exposure if spaces are disinfected & hands are sanitised frequently. General hygiene practices remain critical, such as sneezing or coughing into your elbow.
The length of time the virus exists on a surface or in a space can vary, so it is important to clean in accordance with the environment. A PDF document can be found below outlining research conducted on the Coronavirus family and will most closely allow you to estimate surface persistence times for the COVID-19 strain.
